Course Information

Advanced Classes
Advanced Classes are designed for students with some Chinese background and/or a parent who can assist with the homework.

A-K Class
  Prerequisite:
Students with some Chinese background.
A-1 Class
  Prerequisite:
1. Students have already learned the 37 “Letter” phonetic alphabets.
2. Students are able to use four tones and intonation.
3. Students are able to correctly pronounce words.
4. Students are able to read the phonetic alphabets and to sound out words.
5. Students are able to recite the phonetic alphabets in order.
6. Finished A-K or equivalent.
  Objectives:
Review altogether 37 phonetic alphabets
  Review four tones and intonation.
Be able to correct pronounce the words.
Be able to read the phonetic alphabets and to sound out the words.
Be able to recite the phonetic alphabet articles.
Grasp the pen and the written practice
  Stroke order and stroke practice.
Be able to use the phonetic alphabets to write the short phrases, perhaps on the card.
Teaching material text scope
  Numerals (Writing, utilization in shopping, date and so on)
Writing concepts (Introduce pictographic, compound indicative)
Family members (Giving regards to, self introduction, pictographic characters font introduction)
Spring (Adjective utilization, Tong-Shi appreciates, character radical introduction)
The nursery rhymes, teach to sing
  Can recite the nursery rhymes
The traditional festival celebrates, the introduction
  Does for the occasion, the cultural introduction
A-2 Class
  Prerequisite:
1. Students have already learned altogether 37 phonetic alphabets.
2. Students are able to count 0 ~ 10 in Chinese.
3. Students are able to name the days of the week, dates of the month, and months of the year in Chinese.
4. Students are able to name the colors in Chinese.
5. Students are aware of basic Chinese character classifications and use of the dictionary.
6. Students are able to use simple Chinese to go grocery shopping.
7. Students are able to name the family members in Chinese.
8. Finished A-1 or equivalent.
  Objectives:
  This school year teaching goal will focus on the students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Chinese. Included are to enable the students to understand, be familiar with, and to utilize the known individual character/word in daily life dialogue. Students will be able to read the text and the Chinese “easy reader”. Students will be able to use the basic words and phrases to create sentences.

A-3 Class
  Prerequisite:
1. Student’s vocabulary includes school life. For example, playing with friends, structures of the school environment, what they do in class, and what they do during the recess.
2. Student’s vocabulary includes words related to Christmas, New Year, …, etc. They know how to describe each holiday and corresponding customs.
3. Students are able to use proper manners when making phone calls and shopping in a supermarket. They know the names of different types of food.
4. Students are able to invite friends for dinner.
5. Finished A-2 or equivalent.
  Objectives:
  Develop and refine communication skills in Chinese for students to interact in daily life situations.
Improve Chinese comprehension and literary skills of reading and writing.
Provide students with a basic background of Chinese tradition and culture.
Enhance students’ ability to understand and utilize the Chinese dictionary effectively.
Develop a solid base for advanced exploration of the Chinese language.
Review
  School life. Conversations about play with friends, school environment, what they do in class and what they do during recess.
Snow and snowman in the winter. The mountains, trees and the houses are turning white when they are covered with snow.
Christmas and New Year. Describe each holiday and different customs.
Use proper manners when making phone calls and shopping in a supermarket. The names of different foods.
Students are able to invite friends for dinner.

Teaching goals
  Learning approximately 190 new vocabularies/characters
Learning approximately 40 idioms and proverbs
Practicing the looking up a word in the dictionary
Practicing grammar and sentence pattern
Training reading skills
Constructing phrases and sentences, the thesis practice
Introducing Chinese cultures: (1)The festival celebrates, the Chinese zodiac (the year in which one was born as represented by an animal), the food, and the clothing, (2)Chin dynasty history, (3)Confucius and Mencius, (4)Tang poem.
