Basic Classes
Basic Classes are basic Chinese conversation classes designed for students with little or no background in speaking Chinese. The lecturer will use English to deliver lessons.

B-1 Class
B-1 is a conversational Chinese class. Focuses will be on the verbal and aural skills needed to speak and comprehend the spoken Chinese.
Student will learn to speak and (aurally) understand
1. 100 Chinese characters
2. 5 simple Chinese sentences in affirmative, negative and question formats.
3. all thirty-seven "letters" in the Chinese phonetic alphabet.

B-2 Class
B-2 is a bridge class. It begins with an extensive (8-week) review of the B-1 materials, extends it to include the vocabulary and grammar necessary to give and understand simple classroom instructions. The course also includes an introduction to reading and writing Chinese.
Students will master:
1. speaking and listening comprehension of 150-180 Chinese Characters (including 100 from B-1)
2. speaking and listening comprehension of 10 Chinese sentences in affirmative, negative and question formats (including 5 from B-1)
3. the ability to read and write 25 Chinese Characters
4. all thirty-seven "letters" in the Chinese phonetic Alphabet.
